We were mighty impressed by the facilities at Barton's village hall and the eclectic array of arts, crafts and foodstuffs on offer from our fellow stallholders.
Our being one of only a few stalls selling artisan food, it became easy to spot the food-lovers amongst the visitors gently ambling around - it was great to be able to spend time talking to those who stopped by for a chat and a sample or four, to describe what we're doing, why we're doing it and where we're trying to get to. Keep your eye on our On The Horizon section to find details of where and when you can catch up with us in the future. Sign up to our Newsletter and such details, and more, will be sent to you on a regular basis.
Back to Barton: it was interesting to note the number of people who (very politely) refused the offer of a free sample on the grounds of dietary intolerance, be that a nut allergy, gluten-intolerance/Coeliac disease, and so on. We've got plans to cater for all of these potential customers in the future but we think it is absolutely worth taking the time to get these dietary-specific flavours right, to hold them to the same standards of taste and texture we hold our wheat-based brownies and blondies. Having dietary restrictions doesn't dampen the effectiveness of your palate and, from what I've seen, the market hasn't done a great deal to provide satisfying alternatives in a lot of cases. Bear with... bear with...
For those of you we met on Sunday, it remains only for me to ask: Have you found your flavour?
Choosing to eat Buffalo Brownies for breakfast is a perfectly valid lifestyle choice.
